TO INFINITIVE/GERUND

1. To Infinitive dipakai dalam kalimat sebagai berikut :
a Sebagai subject
contoh : To start a new business needs a lot of capital. To interview an artist needs partience.

b. Setelah kata kerja object pelaku (accusative object)
contoh : She needs me to solve the problems. The children asked the teacher to explain
c. Setelah kata sifat/adjective.
contoh : My mother is proud to have dinner with the president I’m glad to meet you here

d. Setelah beberapa kata tanya. (Question words)
contoh : - I don’t know how to mix the colour - All the participants know where to stay. - Please tell me what to do.

e. Setelah kata-kata kerja tertentu
- agree - hope - refuse - attemp - want - consider, dll - decide - expect Contoh : - The manager decided to enter the workshop alone. - My uncle agreed to close the shop. - The baby wants to drink the milk.
2. Gerund
Pola : Kata kerja + ing Gerund dipakai dalam kalimat sebagai berikut :
a. Sebagai Subject :
Contoh : - Walking is the cheapest but healthiest sport. - Reading a novel is my hobby

b. Sebagai object :
Contoh : - My grandmother loves gardening. - The boy likes collecting stamps. -32-



c. Setelah possessive adjective (my, your, his, her, its, our, their)
Contoh : - Your coming late made the boss angry. - I really enjoy my staying in the hotel - They are fascimated with your speaking.
d. Setelah preposition

Contoh : - The man left the room without saying. - After drinking the medicine, I went home - Please sign the cards before sending them.
e. Setelah kata kerja
- admit - risk - report - can’t help - mind dll. - delay - appreciate - suggest - finish - miss - deny - enjoy - quit - regret - postpone - claim - avoid Contoh : - You should avoid eating too much salt
- She always postpones doing her homework - The teacher can’t crying when the boy tells about the sad news. (saya teringat bahwa saya harus mengeposkan surat) I remember posting the letter. (saya teringat waktu saya mengeposkan surat) My father stops to smoke. (ayah saya berhenti (bekerja) untuk merokok) My father stops smoking. (ayah saya berhenti merokok  maksudnya sudah tidak merokok lagi) -33-
