UNIT 17 PRESENT PARTICIPLE / PAST PARTICIPLE A. PRESENT PARTICIPLE
1. Pola : Having + V3 + O = After S + have/has/had + V3 Contoh : - Having collected the homework, the students have some rest.
Sama artinya dengan : After the students have collected the homework, They have some rest. Having served the dessert, the waitress washed the dishes Sama artinya dengan : After the waitress had served the dessert, she washed the dishes.
2. Pola : S + V + Ving + O Pola ini dipakai bila subject melakukan 2 pekerjaan yang sama. Contoh : - The boy shouted throwing the bag (anak itu berteriak sambil melemparkan
tas). - The players run kicking the ball (pemain itu lari dan menendang bola).

3. Mempunyai pengertian sedang/sementara = when/while Contoh : Opening the gate, the boy saw the accident Sama artinya dengan : - Sleeping, my father was shouting. Sama artinya dengan : While my father was sleeping, he was shouting.

4. Mempunyai pengertian sebagai : karena
Contoh : - being dizzy, my mother took a nap Sama artinya dengan : Because my mother was dizzy, she took a nap - Being an ambassador, Mr. Smith seldom meets his family.
5. Digunakan sebagai pengganti Relative Pronoun
Contoh : - I found the boy hiding under the tree. Sama artinya dengan : I found the boy who hiding under the tree

- Can you see the smilling actress ? sama artinya dengan : Can you see the actrees who is smilling ?

6. Di gunakan setelah object dari kata kerja sensasi (kata kerja panca indra )
- see - listen - feel - watch - hear - catch - observe - smell - find - notice - touch - taste Contoh : - The teacher saw the students cheating during the examination - Can you feel the house shaking ? - The police noticed the driver throwing the trash.

7. Digunakan sebagai pengganti pengertian “jika”

Contoh : - Going home now, you can still meet your mother Sama artinya dengan : If you are going home now, you can still meet your mother - Buying the soap today, you will get a beautiful glass as a gift. Sama artinya dengan : If you are buying the soap today, you will get a beautiful glass as agift.

PAST PARTICIPLE
1. Pola : Having + been + V3 = S + has/have/had + been + V3
Contoh :
- Having been sent to the court, the criminal was very sorry
sama artinya dengan : After the criminal had been sent to the court, he was very sorry
- Having been reportted to the headmaster, the students were very afraid
sama artinya dengan : After the students had been reported to he headmaster, they were very afraid.

2. Digunakan untuk kalimat yang mepunyai pengertian pasif.
Contoh : Give me the picture taken in Bali last year Sama artinya dengan : Give me he picture which was taken in Bali last year - The fishihed product were packed into boxes sama artinya dengan : The product which were finished were packed into boxes - The team, supported by a lot of people, won the match. Sama artinya dengan : The team which was supported by a lot of people, won the match
